Grand Prix Competition Information
  1. All Grand Champion* winners must have a score of 80 or above
  2. All Grand Prix winners must have been awarded a gold trophy in the General Competition
 
Scoring
Each judge can award up to 100 points. All judges’ points are then added together and divided by the number of judges to produce the score.

If there is a tie during the Grand Prix Finals, the tie will be broken by the judges.
*Any competition that has less than 20 acts can be subject to change from a competition to adjudications with awards. 
NO GRAND CHAMPION WINNERS.


GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS 

Competition Age Groups:
MINIS 5-7 YEARS
JUNIORS 8-12 YEARS-Adjudicated
SENIORS 13-18 YEARS- Adjudicated
PROFESSIONAL 19 YEARS AND UP- Adjudicated
 
Music:
All music from each studio must be submitted during registration.  Music will be handed in on CD’s in numerical order and must be properly labeled and cued. Teachers, always have back up music available if needed.


Video Cameras:
1 video pass will be given to each dance studio, allowing them to video tape 

Official Rules and Regulations:
All entries are non-cancelable and non-refundable. Rules, regulations, and cash prizes are subject to changes without notice. Failure to comply with a rule could result in disqualification. Teachers are responsible fro educating their students and parents regarding rules and regulations. There are a limited number of acts in each city. First come, first served.  Register Early!

General Rules:

All entries must be postmarked by registration cut-off date. Phone or e-mail registration (full 30 days prior-cut-off date) accepted. Faxed entries accepted only if paid by credit card. Postmark does not guarantee acceptance of competition entries. Competition cut-off may occur before cut-off date if quota is reached.

Age Divisions:  To reach the average age of an entry, add all the ages together and divide by the number of dancers in the entry.  When an average age ends in .5 or above round up to the next age.  Names and ages of all dancers must appear on the entry form or it will not be accepted.  All competing dancers must be prepared to present proof of age should a question arise.  All ages are as of the competition date.

Registration fees, competition fees, forms, and birth certificates for all contestants and teachers must be submitted at the same time.  All routines must be ap-propriated for the family viewing.  Inappropriate routines will be stopped and/or disqualified.Teachers are permitted to showcase, but are not permitted to compete.  

A teacher is considered someone that owns or operates a dance studio, is 23 years of age or older, and earns 50% or more of their total income from professionally teaching.

Assistant teachers are permitted to compete in the Senior Division only, and must be 16 years of age or older.  

One entry form must be completed for each act.   

No entries will be accepted if they are not completed on the official form.

No use of fire, live animals, or glass on stage.   No coaching from the audience.

Group Time Limits:
SOLO (1 dancer):  2:45 Maximum
DUET/TRIO (2-3 dancers):  2:45 Maximum
GROUP (4-8 dancers):   3:00 Maximum
LINE (9-14 dancers):   3:00 Maximum
PRODUCTION (15+ dancers):   4:00 Maximum
GALA (15+ dancers):  6:00 Maximum  

*A $25.00 fee will be charged for any act exceeding the time limit.*

Music Guidelines:
All music for your studio must be submitted on:

1)  One master for solo routines, one master for duet/trio, group, lines, and productions labeled in numerical order.  Two back-up CD’s, one back-up for solos, one back-up for the rest.                    

 ****OR****

2)  Individual CD’s, each in a sleeve and visibly labeled.
  • Routines on each CD need to be in a specific order and marked with your studio code. 
  • Each CD must be of good quality and playable on a professional sound system.
  • Each CD and case must be labeled with:

1)      Studio Name
2)      Studio Code
3)      Act Number
4)      Act Title EXACTLY AS REGISTERED 

All music must be completely edited and cued to the start of each routine. A 5 point deduction will be taken for music not edited and/or cued to start.


NEW: Dancers studying regularly at different studios, owned by different teachers, may compete for each studio if each teacher is registered. Dancers may compete in more than one city.



Judges Critiques:
  • Only competition Teachers may pick up score sheets and their music at the Registration Table. 
  • Any questions regarding the competition should be addressed as soon as possible, preferably during the competition. DECISION OF THE JUDGES WILL BE FINAL


Backstage Conduct:
A 10 point deduction will be taken from a school’s score for misconduct in the 
dressing room and/or the backstage area.


Props are allowed. They must be freestanding and moved on and off stage by performers. If the stage is littered during a routine, dancers must be prepared to clean it up immediately after the routine is finished. Any unnecessary delay will be a 10 point deduction.
